“I make earth-friendly choices with anything I change or upgrade, and Enhabit ties into that interest.”
Joyce Kindschuh loves where she lives in a walkable Northeast Portland neighborhood: “We’re just a few blocks away from Alberta shops and Alameda school is just down the hill. It’s an excellent neighborhood for walking, a lot of beautiful gardens. People tend to stay in the neighborhood,” she says happily.
After 25 years and 4 kids in her 1918 craftsman bungalow, Joyce can’t see herself anywhere else.
Old Home Needs a New Upgrade
Like many of Portland’s older homes, it was not always running efficiently. The attractive appearance didn’t do enough to mask the cold floors and drafty rooms.
“Last winter, I froze,” says Joyce, recalling her home’s chilly interior. “I knew I needed to fix something, , but it just felt like such a daunting project to figure out.”
In comes Enhabit
After an Enhabit representative came calling at her front door one day last Spring, Joyce decided to check out the 100 Point Performance Check. “It’s a completely free energy audit, so I thought, what have I got to lose?”
Enhabit contractor, Neil Kelly shared the audit results with Joyce and she learned about all the options available to make her home a more efficient place to live. She was pleasantly surprised to learn that solar panels would work for her roof, and that everything could be taken care of as a “full package”—including help with financing and all the different bits and pieces that go along with a home upgrade.
With that, Joyce was ready to move forward with her project.
“It’s really important to me to leave a smaller footprint on the earth in whatever ways I can. I’m in a place and a time where I can do this. I can add value to the house, make it more comfortable, and I feel better about not wasting so much energy,” she says.
A Daunting Project Made Easy
Joyce was able to sit back and relax while the work was completed, knowing she could turn to an Enhabit Home Performance Advisor or her contacts at Neil Kelly anytime she had a question. “It was painless. It felt like a fairy tale,” she says.
The contractors were an especially dependable source for Joyce—always being punctual and clean. “I trusted that they knew what they were doing, and that they were doing it on schedule,” she says. “Everybody that worked on the project was really excited about the work. It makes you feel like you’re a part of something that’s really good.
Now, Joyce lives in a home that works and feels better than ever before. Her house has been much warmer all winter long, and she has seen a decrease in electricity bills by 50%. Best of all, she can sleep easier knowing she’s leaving a smaller footprint on the planet.
